What New Affiliates Need to Know

The Dos and Don'ts to Make Money as an Affiliate

Apr 22, 2009 Mathew Wiebusch

There are many internet sites that promise huge wealth by making money at home. A new affiliate member in the business must know the points to consider before investing.

There are signs attached to notice boards, light poles or sign posts stating that it's easy to "Make Money at Home. Earn $2000 per day." Many people dream of what it must be like to earn money like that. But is it really as easy as they say to make money on the internet? Sadly, it seems, it's not. But is it possible to earn money at all?

A review of one of the top "How to Make Money as an Affiliate" sites showed that many issues arise when attempting this task, but with persistence, there does seem to be some light at the end of the tunnel.

Making Money at Home as a New Affiliate Member

Suppose someone decides to join up to make money at home. Basically, this means the person is deciding to make money on the internet by selling other peoples products. This is called being an affiliate. The people, or company, that this affiliate sells the product for then pays him, or her, a percentage of the sale. It's as easy as that... or so the companies and advertisements make people believe.

What to Know Before Attempting to Make Money on the Internet

If people want to be competitive as new affiliates and stand out above their thousands of competitors, they must find and study;

  • A website that explains the process of making money at home (cost involved). A good site will explain everything new affiliates need to know in detail;
  • An online bank account for any payments. PayPal may not be enough;
  • A search site that will assist new affiliates in finding good products to sell (often cost involved);
  • A website to post advertisements online (cost involved);
  • A website that checks statistics and traffic for targeted websites;
  • A website to purchase domain names from and to build a personal website (cost involved if new affiliates want to stand out);
  • A website to enable new affiliates to place ads on blogs (cost involved);
  • Ways to advertise offline. A few ideas include magazines, newspapers, signage, letterbox drops, etc. (usually a cost involved).

The Pitfalls of Making Money at Home

So now the new affiliates are set up and ready to make money on the internet. Listed below are the problems most encounter while trying to make money as an affiliate. These are typical issues that occur before making a single sale:

  • Although "How to make money at home" sites declare that new affiliates can earn money immediately if they pay their join up fee, this is not the case. Too many seasoned professionals will be way ahead of the uneducated and block new affiliates opportunities if they don't have the right information and know what they're doing;
  • If new affiliates have a great "How to make money at home" site, they must be aware that many others will be using the site as well. The ideas and products they discuss may have been great when the mentor thought of them, but if thousands are taking his/her advice new affiliates may get to the punch too late to make a dime;
  • Some sales pitches exaggerate what a product offers. Selling these products is for anyone without morals;
  • To get mentored online is usually a monthly, ongoing fee;
  • It is very hard to get new affiliates ads posted on the front page of a website, unless they're willing to pay:
  • It is near impossible to find a blogger with good traffic (or visitors/ readers) to advertise new affiliates products, unless they're willing to pay a lot;
  • If new affiliates go through a blog search site, new affiliates' ads will be picked up by bloggers who get few or no hits;
  • It is illegal in most public places to put up signage without permission.

Tips to Make Money on the Internet

Although there aren't many, there are the persistent few who do make it as product affiliates. Here is the advice given by many:

  • New affiliates must follow the site/ mentors' tips strictly;
  • New affiliates should be aware that thousands of others will follow their online tips;
  • New affiliates should be prepared to spend money to make money;
  • New affiliates must be patient;
  • New affiliates must become keyword masters;
  • New affiliates must learn the best targets for your product;
  • New affiliates should only do flyer drops to letterboxes or on car windscreens if the product is relevant for the everyday person.

Making money at home is a cutthroat business that the select few succeed well in. New affiliates must ensure they are prepared to take the highs with the lows. If they stick to the guidelines above, there is no reason why new affiliates can not make some reasonable spare cash.
