Made redundant? New business ideas are hard to find for self-employed people. Make extra cash dog walking, dog sitting, as a freelance writer or registered childminder.

With the CBI expecting the number of people made redundant to swell to 2.9 million by the end of 2009, self-employed numbers are also projected to grow. Animal lovers could even pursue dog walking or dog sitting as a way to earn extra cash and balance household bills.

Work as a Self-Employed Registered Childminder

Registered childminders can make up to £16,000 on a self-employed basis. As well as providing a great way to make extra cash, working from home as a registered childminder can help parents with young families care for their own children as well. Up to six children can be cared for at any one time. There are local authority grants available to assist with initial start-up costs.

All registered childminders will undergo a Criminal Record Bureau check because they are working with young children. Ofsted will also perform an assessment of the family home to make sure there aren't any hazards. Working as a registered childminder is a great business idea, but the approval process is far more involved than it used to be.

Working from Home as a Freelance Writer

The Internet has opened up a wealth of opportunities to make extra cash working from home as a freelance writer.
